Dermal Fillers Care Instructions

Dermal Fillers

Pre-Care

Much like Botox, the treatment for Derma Fillers is not recommended for anyone who has an event or important occasion they’re attending within 3 to 4 weeks, due to the potential swelling. Bruising is also normal in the injected areas, particularly around the eyes. The bruising should only last a week, but it can in some cases last longer. Eating kiwi and taking Arnica can help with the bruising.

There is also a risk that needle punctures could lead to facial cold sores with anyone who has suffered previously from them. Should that happen, our staff will be happy to help recommend something! One week prior, you should also avoid taking asprin or any other anti-inflammatory medicines, as well as higher doses of Vitamin E supplements. These could bring on additional bruising or bleeding. You should also discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and after the treatment. Plus, anyone who has cold sores, fever blisters, or oral herpes breakouts should take 500mg of Valtrex each day for two days prior to the treatment.

Post-Care

Directly after completing the procedure, some of the most common side effects include temporary redness as well as swelling at the point of injection. Both side effects will typically lessen within a few days, and cold compresses will also help reduce the swelling. Like the Botox injections, please refrain from touching the injected area for the first 24 hours.

During the week before and after the procedure, you should avoid the following:

Aspirin

NSAIDS (Ibuprofen)

Vitamins A and E

Garlic Supplements

Ginko Biloba

Green Tea

Flax Oil

Cod Liver Oil

Fatty acids

A normal side-effect you may discover is lumps in the injected area. Typically they dissipate over the months that follow. If they last beyond that amount of time, please contact us.

Following the procedure, some other things you should do are:

Sleep with your head elevated for the first 2 nights.

Avoid exercise and alcohol for the first 6 hours.

Avoid make-up for the first 12-24 hours.

Avoid any products that may irritate the injected area.

Avoid intense heat or extreme cold for the first 2 weeks.

Avoid laser, IPL, or skin tightening treatments for at least 2 to 3 weeks.
